Games News

August 10

The new site is being finally positioned ready for change over here, so watch this space over the coming weeks. Fingers crossed that it won't cause too much disruption!

May/Jun and July 10

Loads of PS1 and PS2 games booked in(July). We're busy with the new website at the moment. The address book is complete, we're putting in an Express checkout for PayPal and it's set up to take Euros as well as GBP for our European customers.

Apr 10

Normal delivery estimates resumed after recent reopening of airspace. There's a load of new PS3 stock on the site this month here

Mar 10

There's an 83 game PS2 bundle up for sale - grab it quick! These are unprocesssed games e.g. some scratches, cracked boxes, missing manuals etc so may not suit a collector. Check it out here. Latest update - sold sorry.

Feb 10

We have several 100 games bundles for PS1 on the site. Latest update 28th Feb - all sold thanks!!!

Jan 10

Virtually all games have been reduced to clear the old stock for the New Year. Loads of Megadrive, MegaCD and Master System ready for the new site coming this Summer.

Dec 09

We've had a record two weeks before Christmas! Thanks everyone.

Nov 09

We have record stock levels ready for the Christmas period - almost half of all PS2 and even more PS1 games.

Oct 09

Lots of new stock this month. We've processed several retro platforms for sale including Dreamcast and Megadrive. You can view them on the new site (but the cart is not quite ready yet).

Sept 09

So near and yet... We've put the new site on hold to focus on stocking up for Xmas. Bummer, as it is so close with a cart and vids for each product but we didn't want to rush the last bits. So as we're buying anything that fits in a console, send us a list of 20 games or more for a quote to here.

August 09 More YouTube Vids

We may appear chilled on the surface but the duck's feet are frantically peddling away at the moment. Check out the videos that we're placing on YouTube. Get to look at some classic games in action before you buy. The list is growing weekly as the two testers Hamster and Geo are feeling the strain of intense games testing! There's now over 50 gameplay videos recorded by Chillout staff - feel free to post comments on there.

July 09

As the 50 platform shopping cart is nearing completion, we're preparing hundreds of Dreamcast and other retro games for sale ready for the relaunch.

June 09... Dev work

Well, we're pressing on with the new website. There's more product details to help you choose the right game. Each product page will have a list of offers and the condition of each game for sale will be described in full. Here's a preview the new site. But it's far from set in stone - so email us with suggestions.

We're also stocking up on PS2 and xBox so send a list if you have over 20 games for sale.

Apr/May 09 More Stock

New in PS1: Azure Dreams and Monster Rancher. April is the 1st month of our accounts year so we aim to get record sales with hundreds of games being added to the site. We're also selling off 2 PS1 hundred game bundles on the site in the next week or so! Also, we're twittering here:

Ps3 backwards compatibility

Want to play your Ps1 and Ps2 games on your 60Gb Ps3? Then lets check an unofficial site (as Sony removed their list) for the current status of each game:

Playstation UK games list.

Unfortunately, the 40Gb console or (surprisingly) the 80Gb console is not backwards compatible!

We popped Resident Evil 2 into a 60Gb machine to see for ourselves. The console immediately prompted us to create an internal memory card for the game. Once we had selected to create a PS1 memory card (you could also create a PS2 card), the game loaded straight away. RE2 isn't currently on Sony's list of compatible games but it played fine with a slightly brighter, sharper picture quality than on the original system.

xBox 360 backwards compatibility

For xBox users, there's an extra couple of hoops to jump through. First, you need a hard-drive (HDD) which is not standard with the Core system. If you are lucky enough to have a Deluxe system or have paid the £70 for a drive then your HDD 360 will play about 50% of the original xBox games once you have downloaded some software from the official site (or xBox Live) and installed it first.

Playing PS1 games on a PS2

Still wondering whether your favourite PS1 game will fire up on the PS2? Overall, there's very little need for concern as only a handful of games will not play better than they would on the original console.

The PS2 uses emulation software to run PS1 games and on the whole it does a good job. There are two options in the browser screen which are switched off by default - fast loading and smooth texture mapping of PS1 games. Start the PS2 with no game in. Press triangle to access the 'Version' Screen. On 'Playstation Drive' press triangle again and you can toggle them both. They only affect the playing of PS1 games.

You will need a PS1 memory card to save your PS1 game as the save data is organised in blocks compared to PS2's Kb measurement. We recommend only the official cards as some third party ones are not recognised by a PS2.

Mar 09... Dev work

The news page will be very boring for the next few months as we are only working on one project... a selling page for the website so you can get a quote for your games online. It's a big project because we need to change the site to SQL and also provide realtime prices for 25,000 games. We'll be buying games from PS3, Xbox 360 all the way through to Atari 2600 so dust off the games in the attic as we want them!

Feb 09 Office refit

As we can't sit around playing Little Big Planet all day, we're busy with an office refit and new dispatch area ready for the next busy period.

Jan 09 Stocktaking and hols

We're back from snowboarding with no broken limbs and the stocktake is done so it's business as usual.

Dec 08 Lean, mean and clean

The retail landscape has been remoulded over the past three months. How are we coping with it at Chillout? By getting down and dirty with the stock and working harder than ever before to get more games listed at keener prices.

Retro games business purchased Dec 07

Online game supplier Chillout Games has acquired the website and inventory of retro-games.co.uk. Both businesses operate in the used console games industry in the UK.

Retro-Games (online in 2000) stocks used games, systems and accessories for retro and classic games consoles and computers. Retro-Games started out stocking a range of NES, Megadrive, SNES and Spectrum games and games for niche platforms e.g. Vectrex and early handhelds (Wonderswan, NeoGeo Pocket). It hosts a retro museum and information pages for all retro games. The site also has retro-games programming info as well as freeware and in-house P.C. remakes of classic video games to download for free.
