    Full Description

Featuring every major character from the first three sagas, you must battle your way through super-powerful villains such as Raditz, Vegeta, Frieza and Cell in a direct recreation of the show's events.

As you can imagine, this isn't your typical strait-laced beat 'em up, so expect plenty of huge fireballs, rapid-fire kung fu combat and dramatic mid-air battles. Cap it all of with a bright, colourful and faithful 3D recreation of the DBZ world, and entertaining cutscenes that feature the original Japanese voices, and it's clear that Budokai is the closest you'll get to actually being part of the show.

There are plenty of game modes to keep you immersed in this world of epic power struggles. The main Story mode recreates the memorable opening sagas of the series as you, as spiky-haired hero Goku (and sometimes Gohan or Piccolo), defend the Earth and planet Namek from villains with planet-destroying powers. As you defeat the likes of the Ginyu Force and the all-powerful Androids, new characters will be added to the roster, up to a total of 23. These can then be used in the two-player Duel versus mode, as well as the single-player World Match tournament mode. Competing and succeeding in the latter mode also earns you zenie - the currency of the Dragon Ball Z universe - which can be spent on special abilities in the character customising Edit Skills mode. Using any of the existing fighters, you can tailor their skills to your liking. Fancy turning Trunks into a grappling pro, or little Krillin into a one-hit killing machine? Now you can.

If you've been disappointed by the previous crop of Dragon Ball Z game titles, you'll be pleased to know that Budokai wipes the slate clean and signals a new beginning for the franchise. Apart from the fact that fights last for minutes rather than numerous episodes, this is as near as you're going to get to an interactive DBZ experience. An essential purchase for fans, but still a great choice for brawling aficionados.
