Classic RPG-ing. Your player advances levels, learns new spells, and a whole host of new ideas are there too. You can learn from masters, who are located in various places and can be discovered during your merry quests
There are plenty of mini-games, including fishing, simon says and a cute game where you have to make sure you give a man a nice mixture of food & drink, but give him too much of one thing and you have to start again. Lots of RPG qualities are hidden in the game. Towns full of half human-half animals, weapon shops and lots of insignificant characters to talk to.
The plot is absorbing, taking you around as Ryu, Nina and Cray in search of nina's sister Elina. There are other playable characters including Ershin, and two others. You also take the role of Fei-Lu, an ex-emperor. You get short snippets of play as him, but it is a different story. But do the two storylines meet at any stage? Now, now, that'd be telling. It is a huge story though, it is only on one disc yet is easily as large as it's 4-disc allies. And it is at times twice as addictive.
The baddies are really good, in the RPG essence they are totally unbelievable. They range from little goos and Elves to Giant mammoths and Fish. despite the name you don't battle any dragons.Instead, Ryu and Fei-Lu can transform into Dragons during battle, making them quite a match. But being a dragon saps your AP, leaving a few moments of strategy in-battle. There is also a mysterious plot about a dragon following you, which a few characters notice. What happens?
This a classic RPG, and a massively entertaining quest.
