The pursuit of an explorer's dying wish leads you to the far-off land of Amerzone, an imaginary Central American country ruled by a power-crazed dictator. Heat, humidity and corruption at every turn - plunging you into the middle of a thrilling adventure story set in breathtaking surroundings.
In terms of gameplay, Amerzone is very similar to Myst. Taking Myst's often-clunky interface to the next level, Microids and DreamCatcher (of Hegemonia fame) introduced a more free-look perspective. Instead of clicking on one of the sides of the play area and being treated to a whole new static screen, players can look around in a more or less spherical fashion, much like those internet tours so fashionable in the mid- to late-nineties.
Graphically, the game is a mixed bag, mainly using snatches of full-motion video (which closely resemble the FMV scenes in Final Fantasy VII). At times, Amerzone is gorgeous, even outshining some low-end modern games. Locales, vehicles and animals come vibrantly to life as our hero, an unnamed journalist, carries out his quest.
Our hero, on the request of a dying old man, sets out to the Amerzone to return the egg of a "White Bird". These mythical birds are a legend amongst the Amerzonians. It is rumored that they might have the power to restore hope to the natives who have been mercilessly crushed under the heel of their dictator
Throughout his quest, our hero must travel in a vehicle that can change forms at the push of a button, refueling it periodically and solving puzzles.
